Good summer start for MSN and Orange faced with the insatiable Google
|
|

TOP 5: no summer break in Google’s rise… |
With 89.79% of the visits in July 2007, Google leaves the search engines Yahoo! (3.14%), MSN (2.48%), Orange (1.89%) and Free (0.72%) far behind:
|
In this month of July 2007, Google doesn’t give any break to its competitors and again accentuates its lead:
- 89.79% of the visits in July 2007 vs. 89.53% in June 2007 (+0.26 points),
- Over a one-year vision, between July 2006 and July 2007, Google’s share has progressed by 4 points.
The 4 other principal search engines thereby see their visit shares declining over the last 13 months:
- Yahoo shows the greatest drop with -1.49 points (July 2007 vs. July 2006). In July 2007, its share drops 0.04 points (-1.4% vs. June 2007),
- -0.40 points for MSN, with, nonetheless, a share that is progressing for two months: 2.48% in visit shares for July 2007, 2.30% for June 2007 and 2.22% for May 2007,
- -0.40 points for Orange, also progressing in July 2007: 1.89% of the visits vs. 1.81% in June 2007,
- -0.21 points for Free, who shows, for the second consecutive month, the sharpest decline of the top 5: -0.05 points vs. June 2007, i.e. a 7% drop.

Top 15: MSN, Orange, Ask and La Toile du Québec salvage a bad situation |
AOL, Alice, Voilà, Altavista and Ask occupy the 6th to 10th places on the honors list of search engines for July 2007, in which Club Internet no longer appears following its recent buyout by Neuf Cegetel. These search engines are followed by Exalead, 9Online, Virgilio, Lycos and La Toile du Québec.
After Google and its “close” competitors, it suffices to say that there remains little place for other search engines: from the 5th place (Free), the visit share is lower than 1 point, and from the 10th (Ask), it descends under the 0.1 point threshold…

Faced with the Google machine, 4 search engines manage to gain ground in July 2007:
- MSN with +7.7% vs. June 2007 continues to forge ahead (+3.6% the last month),
- Orange: +4.3% between June and July 2007,
- Ask: +2.5% between June and July 2007 (+13.7% the last month),
- La Toile du Québec knows the strongest evolution proportionally to its visit share still relatively confidential (0.05%): +16.2% between June and July 2007.
The 10 other search engines of this top 15 show a drop in their visit shares, the most significant of which concerns Virgilio (-13.5%) though dynamic in June 2007, Free (-7%) and Exalead (-5.6%).
90% of the visit shares are very close… Will Google pass it in August? Or will its competitors such as MSN or Orange fiercely defend themselves?
Rendezvous next month on XiTi Monitor for the latest evolutions of the search engines.
